History:During the Thirty Years' War, Swedish soldiers captured two guild masters and demanded a ransom from Chomutov. The whole event got out of hand and both guild masters were martyred in 1647. This event is commemorated by the Chapel of Our Lady, but why am I talking about it? This event is also commemorated by this statue of Pieta. It was created by an artist unknown to me in 1725 opposite this chapel. After the removal of the German population, this statue was no longer maintained and gradually fell into disrepair and some of the inscriptions were destroyed. In 1977 the road leading past the chapel was widened and the statue was moved to its present location. In 2018, this statue finally saw its restoration by restorer Jakub Orava.
