Poles - Bylan burial site

Information

Visited:13. 9. 2021

History:When the construction of the local cowshed began in the early 1980s, a prehistoric burial site was stumbled upon. As early as 1974, a rescue archaeological survey of the 6 hectare area began. This survey was carried out under the direction of archaeologist Z. Smrže and during it a total of 51 graves of the Bylan culture from the 7th - 5th century BC, 19 graves of the culture with corded pottery from the period 2900 - 2350 BC and 3 graves from the time of the migration of peoples were discovered. A cowshed was subsequently constructed on most of the burial sites after the burial site was secured and surveyed. Further archaeological research was carried out between 1980 and 1981 under the direction of archaeologist D. Koutecký on an area of 4 ha. A total of 15 Bylan graves and 2 graves of the corded pottery culture were found in this area. Subsequently, a waste pit for a cowshed was built here. Even so, a part of the burial site has probably been preserved to this day, as the burial site is cut by the road from the Poles to Pětips.
