History:The Baroque chapel at the top of Mědník was built by the owner of the island estate, Duke Julius Franz of Saxe-Lauenburg. According to legend, the Duke and his retinue got lost in the surrounding woods and were rescued by a local coal miner. He then had the chapel built as thanks for the rescue. However, other legends claim that he had it built as a thank you for the return of the local mines to profitability. Whether these rumours are true or not, the fact is that the chapel was built in 1672 in the Baroque style according to plans by an author unknown to me. After the expulsion of the German population at the end of World War II, the chapel was no longer maintained and gradually fell into disrepair. The interior furnishings were either stolen or destroyed. However, it was finally restored in 1994, thanks to which its beauty once again dominates over the Ore Mountains.
