Louchov - mortuary

Information

Visited:20. 9. 2021

History:This mortuary was supposedly built as a defensive tower to support the defensive function of this church. I do not know exactly when it was built, but one stone block bears the date 1524, but the question is whether this stone block came from elsewhere. Later this tower began to serve as a mortuary, and it served until the end of World War II. We do not know what its original form was, but it is likely that it was a two-storey building. After the removal of the German population at the end of World War II, the mortuary was no longer maintained and gradually fell into disrepair. During the second half of the 20th century, the mortuary fell into a state of disrepair and only the ground-floor brick part made of rubble stone survived. In the first two decades of the 21st century, the church and the cemetery were purchased by BC. Ales Olbram Hoffman from Kadana, who is a descendant of the old Czech knightly family of the Hoffmanns from Hyršov. This man then attempted to restore the former glory of the site, and so this mortuary already had its first half-timbered floor at the time of my visit.

Impressions:An interesting mortuary, which I wonder about its actual age.
