History:House No. 101 in the present Sládkova Street (formerly also Sladká) was built as a medieval burgher house. In 1542 it was reconstructed and acquired a Renaissance appearance. The year carved in stone in one of the ground-floor halls of the house reminds us of this reconstruction. Later, it also underwent Baroque and Classicist modifications, the latter of which took place during the second half of the 19th century, and due to its size it used to be a representative residence of many esteemed citizens of Kadan. One of the owners of this house was Johann Schreiber (1878-1932), a native of Karlovy Vary and an insurance inspector. He married his fiancée Anna in 1902 in the Church of St. Havel in Úhošt'any, Kadan, and later they raised their six children, three daughters and three sons, together in the house. The widowed Anna still occupied the house in 1944. From the end of the 19th century, the house was also occupied by Alfred Guba, a descendant of one of the so-called Old Kadan bourgeois families. From 1875 he worked as a teacher and later as the headmaster of the girls' school in Kadan. He was also elected chairman of the Kadan Teachers' Association and in 1905 he also headed the Association of Friends of the Kadan City Museum. In 1906, he was pensioned and awarded the Golden Cross of Merit by the then Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I. The house was also occupied for many years by his son Alfred Guba, a trainee at the tax office. Franz Gellert, a master tailor, also ran his business in the house at that time. In 1945, the house was confiscated from the Schreiber family as so-called German property on the basis of Benes Decrees.
