Hrušovany - Church of St. Bartholomew

History:We do not know when exactly this church was built. However, it probably happened during the 14th century in the Gothic style, as the first written mention of the local church, which was already a parish church at that time, dates back to 1380, when Bořita of Pšovka had the right of administration to the church. Already in 1384 the first parish priest is mentioned here. In 1387 Lipolt of Moravěvs was the patron of the church, and in 1395 the local parish priest was entrusted with the introduction of a new parish priest in Stranná. In 1411 there was a parish priest named Nikolaus Biskupecz. At the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries a Protestant parish priest served here and after the Battle of White Mountain the recatholization took place. The local parish also disappeared at this time. In 1655, the owner of the local estate, Thomas Nikolaus Negroni von Riesenbach, had a baroque bell tower added to the church according to plans by an unknown author. However, the original church was in a very poor condition and was demolished in 1678, leaving only the tower. In place of the church a magnificent Baroque building was built the same year, which was connected to the Baroque tower and even retained many of the original Gothic elements. In 1772, the church underwent further modifications, when it received all its Baroque inventory and three bells were placed in the tower at the end of the 18th century. Unfortunately, at the end of World War II, this church ceased to be maintained and gradually fell into disrepair. Eventually the church only saw its demolition, which took place in 1966. Only the stairs and the base of the cemetery wall and the crypt of the Negroni von Reisenbach family have been preserved. Perhaps a bit of historical irony is that at the time of my visit there was a playground on the site of the former cemetery and church.
